Renato Musto Award is dedicated to a scientist with multifaceted intellectual, cultural interest and passions. The award aims to give continuity to the project of Renato Musto to combine humanistic, social and artistic knowledge, with that one of scientific research. The award is also a recognition of the efforts of a man who has always invested in the education and training of young people.

This prize is awarded every year to a disciplinary domain dear to Renato Musto: from physics to biology, from music to politics and is awarded to a young researcher who has distinguished him/herself with his/her scientific work.

Renato Musto award 2019: Genomics and Physics will be devoted to studies on fundamental aspects of the biology of eukaryotic genome carried out with quantitative and genome-wide methods. Topics may regard the study on genome maintenance and duplication, genome structure, genome functional regulation or genome information-encoding capability.

This Prize consists of a Certificate and a monetary award of 1,500 EUR (this sum is gross, before any withholding taxes required by law) made available by Professor Eliana Minicozzi, Renato Musto's wife.

The selection of the winner will be based on curriculum vitae and excellence and originality of the research works as documented by scientific publications and applicant specific contribution to them. The winner commits to hold a seminar on his/her research in the occasion of the award ceremony. The winner designation will be notified by email and published on the website www.puntoorg.net by October 1st, 2019. The winner has to communicate acceptance of the prize and a title for the seminary by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. In case of renounce, the selection committee reserves the right to award the prize to the second-best candidate. The selection committee reserves the right to do not assign the prize in case of not excellence of proposals.

The ceremony of the Renato Musto award Prize 2019 will take place at the “Sala del Refettorio” of the Biblioteca di Area Umanistica (BRAU) of the University of Naples Federico II on Friday, November 22nd, 2019, 16:45, Piazza Bellini, 60 - 80138.

Renato Musto Award Prize, realised every year by puntOorg International Research Network, for this sixth Edition (2019) is endorsed by the University of Naples Federico II, the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) and by Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM).

Qualification Criteria

The candidates have:

    • to be of Italian nationality or to have worked in an Italian scientific Institution for two years;
    • to be younger than 35 years at the date of the closing of the call;
    • in case of winning, to be present and give a talk at the award ceremony in Naples on November 22nd 2019, as mentioned above
    • to submit the application documents in English.

  • Applicant general information and contact details (postal address, email and telephone number)
  • Current scientific affiliation
  • Explicit declaration of consent to the processing of personal data

The application must be accompanied by the following documents:

  1. curriculum vitae with a list of publications (with corresponding Pubmed Id, if available);
  2. short summary of the presented research and its significance in the scientific context (max 2500 characters);
  3. a maximum of two published scientific articles or accepted (with appropriate certification of acceptance) at the due date of submission;
  4. copy of a valid identity document.

The submission of the application and accompanying documentation implies acceptance on the part of the candidates of all the rules expressed in this call.

Terms of exclusion

Spouses and relatives (up to third degree) of members of the Scientific Committee and/or the organizing committee cannot participate in the selection and the researchers who have worked in the laboratories of the Selection Committee members in the last three years.

Incomplete applications or applications from candidates who do not fulfil the requirements will be considered void. Unsolicited materials will not be reviewed.
